Solar garden plots for apartment-dwelling city-slickers
Afterglow’s video showcases the Community Power Agency’s pilot community-owned solar garden, Haystacks. Solar gardens have sprung up around the world and this is Australia’s first solar garden project, a utility-scale solar generation farm in south western NSW where users of the power are also the owners. The concept here is that it offers the 30% of Australians locked out of rooftop solar – ie renters and apartment-dwellers – a little ray of sunshine with direct access to the renewables world (you buy a share of a proposed solar farm and once it’s built, you benefit from on-bill credits as power from the farm flows into the grid).
