Brief:
HARDA obtained funding from the Department of Immigration’s Diversity and Social Cohesion Program to produce a video that would provide give face to the contemporary refugee experience in Australia.

Solution:
Afterglow worked closely with HARDA to identify a range of characters to include in the video. Afterglow’s Michael Power developed a rapport with the subjects and they were comfortable sharing their stories with the camera running.

Result:
New Land New Life profiles a number of refugees from the Horn of Africa region who have settled in Australia. All have endured extreme hardship yet are positive about their experiences and confident of the future.

This excerpt focuses on Agey Abdikarin, a business graduate from Somalia, and Deng Thiak Adut, a criminal lawyer who was a boy soldier in the Sudanese conflict.
